OUR HISTORY

Levana Textiles is one of New Zealand’s longest established textile companies, having first opened our doors more than 40 years ago. A company that continues to grow and evolve, we’re constantly building on our accumulated knowledge and expertise to create leading edge performance fabrics.

From mountain sports to street fashion, from swimwear to lingerie, Levana has fabric solutions that perform. Using the best yarns from around the world Levana manufactures and dyes superior cotton, cotton blends, nylon, merino and merino blended fabrics in a range of styles. From plains to ribs, jacquards, stripes, mesh and double knits Levana’s fabrics have the edge to enhance customer designs. With a strong focus on operational performance Levana has the systems in place to ensure consistent on time delivery of quality fabrics so customers can plan with confidence.

Levin, New Zealand’s textile town, is just a one hour drive from the art and fashion focused capital of Wellington. Home to Levana, Levin is situated between the rugged Tararua Ranges and the vast Tasman Ocean, extreme environments typical of a country where hard-wearing, high-performing fabrics are a must.

This unique environment provides Levana with something very valuable – pure water and clean air. All the water we use in the processing of our fabrics comes exclusively from the underground water tables of the Tararua Ranges. Having been naturally filtered through the mountains for hundreds of years, it’s 100% chemical free.

Naturally we want to protect our local environment, so we make sure our processes, dyes and chemicals are environmentally friendly keeping the air and waterways healthy and clean.

Levana Textiles is an ISO 9001:2000 registered company. Yarn handling is in compliance with MAF bio-security requirements. The company adheres to Workplace Safety Management Practices to provide a safe environment for all staff.

Levana boasts and extremely knowledgeable and dedicated team and their expertise is a huge advantage to us. More than half the Levana team have been with us for more than 15 years. Their knowledge and experience combined with that of technical experts brought in from around the world ensures Levana is at the front line of innovation, quality assurance and environmental practices. They’re skilled experts who enjoy and thrive on new challenges. We value their loyalty immensely, and are dedicated to recognising the potential of our employees, offering them every opportunity to extend their knowledge and expand on their skill base.

Our people enjoy what they do, and they’re good at it - that’s what has earned us a reputation as specialists. Ongoing training, skill enhancement, health and safety and exposure to international textile trends and technology keep Levana’s staff at the forefront of the textile industry.

Lempriere - a family business committed to wool for 150 years, led the charge to develop a new approach to effectively marketing wool. They called it The Merino Company (‘TMC’).

TMC Evolution
The founding partners in TMC were all involved in the business of wool. Growers, traders and brokers who all realised a fundamental shift was needed.

The Lempriere Family
For 150 years the fashion houses of Europe, England, Japan and North America have trusted the Lempriere family to source and process their wool. Be it Burberry or Austin Reed of London, Zegna or Cerruti in Italy or St. John Knits in the USA, for these and many others Lempriere has been the supplier behind the brands.

The Lillie Family
The Lillie family have been leaders in woollen system processing, buying and exporting since 1948, as well as having substantial direct buying interests. With a long history of involvement in the Australian Wool industry, the company is supplying specialised products and services to exacting clients and prides itself on its commitment to maintain the highest of standards that others can only try to achieve.

The Goodrich Family
In 1829, Frederick Bracker arrived in Australia from Hamburg with 200 sheep from Silesia, Spain (of Prince Esterhazy’s flock). Frederick settled in Queensland in 1845, and now, six generations later, his direct decendents the Goodrich family, have perfected their elite and rare flock, developing what has been dubbed the softest wool in the world.

TMC Today

TMC has four interrelated divisions working together to provide our customers with a quality, consistent, differentiated wool supply; Growers, Manufacturers, Local Solution Providers, and Brands.

TMC has a unique relationship with leading wool growers throughout Australia and South Africa. It works with proactive and customer focused supply chain partners and manufacturers in China, Europe, India, Mauritius and Vietnam; from organically certified top making facilities, through to quality driven garment makers.

It has assembled a network of knowledgeable industry professionals in Europe, Japan and North America to build strong relationships and sales with the world’s best retail, apparel and textile brand customers.

TMC provides customers natural wool solutions from sheep to shelf (S2S). It does this by seeking out the world’s best retail, apparel and textile brand customers and seeking to understand their needs for innovative wool products. TMC then manages the supply chain literally from grower through to customer, or works with the customer’s existing supply chain partners. More than just delivering a wool garment to customers, TMC delivers the product plus other services they value to create a fully packaged wool solution.
